Mumbai: Data Theft Scare in Mantralaya After Contract Employee Accesses Several PCs

A contract employee in the IT Department at Mantralaya after a complaint against him of accessing computers in the Revenue department without authorisation was filed. According to a Times of India report, this incident created panic and caused data scare in Mantralaya.

Mumbai, August 28: A contract employee in the IT Department at Mantralaya was sacked, after a complaint against him of accessing computers in the Revenue department without authorisation was filed. According to a Times of India report, this incident created panic and caused a data theft scare in the Mantralaya. The man was spotted by the housekeeping staff early in the morning. On being asked, why was he is in the office so early, he replied saying that he had some work to finish. Soon, a peon spotted him sitting with CPUs of almost 20 computers open.

Reportedly, there has been no data loss and police have requested not to reveal the name of the person allegedly involved in the act before the investigation is completed. Data losses from government offices are very common, and in the 2012 fire in Mantralaya, an agent working with a big builder was known to have stolen files from the sixth floor.
