Mumbai, December 11: A Bhiwandi debt-ridden couple allegedly murdered their neighbour and disposed of her body in the lake last month to steal and sell off her gold jewellery. According to an Indian Express report, the couple alleged that they were inspired by a crime serial on television. The post-mortem report of the deceased revealed that she was killed by a sharp blow on her head with a blunt object.
Police during their course of investigation found out that the accused couple had an accumulated debt of more than Rs 2.5 lakh over the past one year and they were unable to pay it with their combined incomes. They had built a bungalow and bought a Honda City car, an air-conditioner, and an iPhone. On being probed by the police, the accused said that they got ideas from crime television shows like Crime Patrol and Savdhaan India, and hit the elderly lady on the head with a wooden washing bat, thus killing the frail woman instantly. Then they took off her necklaces, rings, and earrings, and loaded her dead body into their car and finally tossed her into the lake to dispose of.
