Mumbai Court Sentences Man to 10 Years Rigorous Imprisonment For Raping, Impregnating Minor Girl

Mumbai, October 21: A Pocso court sentenced a 27-year-old man to 10 years' rigorous imprisonment for sexually assaulting and impregnating with twins a 14-year-old girl he met at a garba event in 2018. The court observed that such crime has cast a lifelong psychological and emotional impact on the survivor.

According to a report in TOI, special judge Madhuri M Deshpande while pronouncing the verdict said “he preyed on the child of tender age of 14 years. The judge also fined the accused Rs 10,000 stating that “the incident has caused adverse impact on the mind of victim. No compensation can either be adequate or of any respite for the victim. Relying on the minor’s testimony and other evidence, the judge said that the prosecution had proved that the accused raped the child.

Rejecting the defence of the accused that the relationship was consensual, the judge said that the survivor was a minor at the time of incident and unaware about the consequences of the act of the accused.

The twins were aborted at 16 weeks when the pregnancy was discovered, and DNA tests had revealed that the accused was the biological father of the twins.
