Mumbai, September 10: Six years after a 29-year-old woman was charged with aiding her 48-year-old husband's suicide because she fought with him frequently and refused to live with him, a sessions court acquitted her, noting that it was not unreasonable for her to continue living with her mother because there was no room in her marital home. Marriage discord that is normal in married life may cause strain, but cannot automatically be considered as an instigation by either spouse that may lead to suicide, the judge stated.

As per the judge, there is no evidence to suggest that she actively participated in the suicide by acting as an instigator or by carrying out a specific act to enable it.
The alleged act of Sadhana, which is refusing to consent to have children with her husband, leave for her mother's house after a disagreement with her husband, demand that her in-laws live apart, stipulate that she can only stay with her husband if he rents a room away from his parents and siblings, call her husband while he is at work, and argue with him, may all be referred to as harassment of the deceased, but they cannot be said to have been intentional, he added. The court said that it looked to be "overreactive" for the deceased husband to believe that his wife was holding him in servitude.
