Mumbai, Sep 25: Standing committee of the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has approved the 9.98-km coastal road from princess street flyover at Marine Lines to the Worli end of the Bandra-Worli Sea Link in Mumbai. The construction work for the coastal road, which is a part of the ambitious 29.2-km coastal road project, is expected to begin in October.

While the BMC will construct the 9.98-km coastal road from Marine Lines to Worli, the Maharashtra State Road Development Corporation is in charge of the Bandra-Versova section which connects South Mumbai and Versova. The BMC has divided the 9.98-km coastal road into three parts and selected contractors to build all three portions. Mumbai Metro 3 Completes First Underground Tunnel Project, Devendra Fadnavis Calls It 'Breakthrough'.

On May 15, BMC awarded the contract for the first portion — Worli to Haji Ali — to a joint venture of Hindustan Construction Company and Hyundai Development Corporation. The third portion that consists of twin tunnels was awarded to Larsen & Toubro on September 22. As per the terms of the contract, work has to be completed within four years. The construction cost of all three portions stands at nearly Rs 12,000 crore after the addition of various taxes, cess and fee.
