Mumbai, August 31: The Mumbai Coastal Road, also known as Dharmaveer Swarajyarakshak Chhatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj Road, will be partially closed for traffic from August 31 to September 2. The partial closure is attributed to the DG electric work.

According to the Mumbai Traffic Police, the southbound tunnel will be shut from 9:00 pm on August 31 to 7:00 pm on September 2. The police stated in a traffic notification that the closure was necessary for the testing of two DG sets. Commuters are advised to exit at Amarsons Garden and proceed via Mukesh Chowk and NS Patkar Road to reach their destinations. The southbound section of the coastal road, from Worli to Marine Drive, was opened to the public on March 11. The project, which began in October 2018, was initially slated for completion within four years but is still ongoing. The road is being opened in phases. In June, the second tunnel of the Mumbai Coastal Road was opened for northbound traffic up to Haji Ali Junction. The connection to the Bandra-Worli Sea Link is expected to be completed by the end of October. The Mumbai Coastal Road, with an estimated cost of Rs 14,000 crore, aims to provide a direct connection to the Bandra-Worli Sea Link, significantly reducing travel time between South Mumbai and the suburbs. Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde has stated that the 12-km-long road is 91% complete, with efforts underway to finish the remaining work as soon as possible.
