Mumbai, June 29: A Class 9 girl allegedly committed suicide on Thursday by jumping off a building in Mumbai. The incident happened in Mumbai's Kandivali area on Thursday and a video of the same was recorded by a neighbour. The 14-year-old girl has been identified as Harshika Dhirendra Mayavashi and resided on the fifth floor of the Gardenia Cooperative Housing Society in Kandivali's Thakur village.

In the video shot by a neighbour, people can be heard shouting and trying to stop her from jumping from the eighth floor of the building. The girl was standing on the parapet wall of the eighth floor when some neighbours saw her and shouted her asking her to get away.

“When she fell to the ground, people immediately took her to a hospital, where she was declared brought dead,” a police official said.

“The motive behind the suicide is yet to be ascertained and we are making inquiring with her relatives and friends in this connection. We will also examine her mobile phone and other gadgets,” the official said.

The police said that they will also examine the girl's activities on the social media. An accidental death report (ADR) has been registered at Samata Nagar police station.
