Mumbai Businessman Impersonating as Maharashtra CM Chief Secretary Dupes 5-Star Hotel of Rs 95,000, Arrested
The Pune police have arrested a businessman from Mumbai on Saturday for allegedly impersonating an additional chief secretary to Maharashtra Chief Minister and cheating the management of a five-star hotel here of Rs 95,000 by not paying the bills.
Mumbai, October 8: The Pune police arrested a businessman from Mumbai on Saturday for allegedly impersonating an additional chief secretary to Maharashtra Chief Minister and cheating the management of a five-star hotel of Rs 95,000 by not paying the bills. The businessman has been identified as 39-year-old Aditya Ashok Jogani, a resident of Napean Sea road in Mumbai. The police are yet to arrest arrested five of his friends.
All the accused have been booked under Indian Penal Code (IPC) 420 (cheating ),170 (impersonating as a public servant) and section 34, at the Koregaon Park police station. Jogani was sent to police custody till October 10 by the Pune court. The commercial director of the hotel lodged the FIR.
The incident took place in January this year when Jogani called up the hotel reception and introduced himself as Praveen Pardeshi, an additional chief secretary to the chief minister. He asked the hotel authorities to arrange a stay of six people. He also told the hotel reception not to bill the guest as it would be taken care off. The hotel authorities after not getting a response from Jogani for a long time called up Pardeshi, an IAS officer. After the IAS officer denied that he had called the hotel to make arrangements for the stay of six people, the hotel authorities realised that they were cheated and then contacted the police.
In a similar incident, on September 28, the Delhi Police's Crime Branch arrested a man identified as Pulkit Maharaj who claimed to be the spiritual guru of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. An FIR was registered against Pulkit on the complaint of the Prime Minister's Office (PMO) in August with the Delhi Police. An assistant director at the PMO had complained about the fraud. Pulkit had sought VIP treatment as he claimed himself being close to the Prime Minister.
