Mumbai: Boat Carrying Government Officials Capsizes Near Shiv Smarak, Watch Video

Mumbai, October 24: A boat capsized near Shiv Smarak at Girgaum Chowpatty in Mumbai reportedly after hitting some rock in the sea. The boat was carrying at least 25 people including senior government officials. Maharashtra state chief secretary Dinesh Kumar Jain was onboard as well. Following the mishap, the event for laying the stone foundation for King Shivaji statue, also known as Shiv Smarak or the Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Memorial, was postponed.

There was no immididate report of any casualty. It was not clear that what led to the mishap. The boat involved in the mishap belongs to the Maharashtra government. The Indian Coast Guard, Marine Police and other agencies launched a major rescue maritime and aerial operation with two helicopters and managed to rescue all the people, though one was feared missing, an official told IANS.
"Coast guard hovercraft has reached the spot; our choppers are also involved in rescue. Most of the people are already rescued," Indian Coast Guard PRO told news agency ANI.
