Mumbai, November 14: The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) on Wednesday confirmed a 10 per cent cut in water supply across Mumbai as levels of the seven lakes that supply potable water to the city dipped this year. This comes after Mumbai's water stock has dipped from 93 per cent on October 1 to nearly 77 per cent on November 11. Reportedly, the city uses 10 per cent of the water stock every month.
Levels of the seven lakes, which provide water to the city, has drastically dropped. It is the lowest since 2016 when lakes had 89 per cent stock in November. "The 10% cut would be uniform for the entire city, including commercial and residential structures. It is reported that several parts of Maharashtra are been facing water scarcity, due to low water stock. Earlier, the Maharashtra government has declared a drought in 151 tehsils. The announcement was made after cabined selected 181 tehsils, which received more than 30 per cent deficient rainfall as compared to the long-term average. The government officials would be visiting these districts and would provide a financial assistance to the farmers and sufferers.
