Mumbai Beastiality Case: Man Rapes Female Stray Dog in Kharghar; Arrested After Intervention of PETA

In another incident of beastiality, a man allegedly raped a female stray dog in Navi Mumbai’s Kharghar area on Wednesday. Police registered an FIR in the case after animal activist Vijay Rangare and People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) India lodged a complaint.

Navi Mumbai, August 22: In another incident of beastiality, a man allegedly raped a female stray dog in Navi Mumbai’s Kharghar area on Wednesday. Police registered a First Information Report (FIR) in the case after animal activist Vijay Rangare and People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) India lodged a complaint. The accused was arrested on Wednesday evening. The man believed to have sexually abused animals many times before. PETA India in a statement said, “We worked with the commissioner of police, Navi Mumbai; the deputy commissioner of police, Zone II, Panvel; and the Kharghar police station’s senior police inspector to help register the FIR under Section 377 of the IPC.”

A person convicted under the section 377 of the IPC for raping an animal gets a prison term up to 10 years. PETA India has also sent a letter to the central government urging it to amend the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (PCA) Act, 1960, to include bestiality as a cognisable offence and to introduce stronger penalties for cruelty to animals.
