Mumbai, July 5: Mumbai's Chhatrapati Shivaji International Airport on Friday started flight operation on the main runway 09/27. The runway was made available at 4:47 pm on Friday, July 7, days after a Spicejet plane overshot the runway. To make the taxiway functional, a 60-member team of Mumbai Airport and 100 contract staff of AIC worked for over 90 hours. The financial capital was recently battered with very heavy monsoon showers, as a result of which, a SpiceJet flight from Jaipur to Mumbai carrying 167 passengers aboard skidded from the runway and veered into the soft ground after landing. The SpiceJet aircraft was successfully pulled out on Thursday at 11.10 pm.

The plane was partially stuck on the runway and the nearby soft ground. Due to which the primary runway had to be shut, and many flights were diverted to other airports or even got cancelled. Verbal Spat Erupts Between Passengers & Crew Onboard Air India Flight at the Mumbai Airport.

Notably, the Mumbai International Airport is the second busiest in the country, handing around 1,000 arrivals and departures everyday. On Tuesday, around 52 flights were cancelled and another 55 diverted.
