Mumbai, May 31: Mumbaikars travelling by the air-conditioned (AC) local train between Churchgate and Virar on the Western Railway (WR) will have to shell more money as the ticket fares are set to rise from June 1. The hike in fares comes following a fare-revision by the Ministry of Railways as ministry decided to withdraw the inaugural discount which it offered on its launch in 2017. The decision is set to hike the base fare of a single journey by 1.3 times the fare of first-class travel on a local train. Mumbai: Second AC Local to Have Increased Seating Capacity, Will Accomodate More Than 100 Passengers. 

At present, the fare of 12 AC local train services that run on WR from Monday to Friday is 1.2 times the first-class fare of local train services. Starting June 1, a single ticket journey will cost up to Rs 5 to Rs 15 more. With the latest revision, the minimum fare for a single journey ticket will increase from Rs 60 to Rs 65. Meanwhile, the maximum fare will go up from Rs 205 to Rs 220. The season tickets will also increase accordingly.

After the hike, tickets prices may go up by Rs 5 to Rs 15:  

Churchgate to Prabhadevi Rs 65
Churchgate to Dadar Rs 90
Churchgate to Andheri Rs 135
Churchgate to Borivili Rs 180
Churchgate to Bhayander Rs 190
Churchgate to Virar Rs 220

The Western Railways on Thursday announced a hike in fares of AC local services. It informed that the weekly pass travellers will see a fare hike of Rs 25 to Rs 80. Also, fortnight pass holders will get a hike of Rs 35 to Rs 125 and monthly pass holders will have to pay Rs 50 to Rs 165 more. The AC local on the Western Line, which is believed to be the country’s first, was pressed into service on December 25, 2017. In a year, the AC local generated a revenue of around Rs 24 crore till April 30, 2019. A WR spokesperson  was quoted in reports saying that the beginning of the new financial year has been fruitful with the AC local earning garnering approximately Rs 1.84 crore in April, which created a record of highest-ever earning in a single month.
