Mumbai, January 5: A 48-year-old was sentenced to life imprisonment by a special Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act court for brutally raping a seven-year-old girl in his neighbourhood in 2014 in Mumbai. The convict was also asked to pay Rs 50,000 compensation. The 48-year-old man is a scrap dealer. After sexually assaulting the minor, he left the child severely injured and bleeding due to which she had to undergo surgery. The court refused to grant mercy on the convict and called him remorseless.

According to a report published in The Times of India, the victim deposed in court and said that she was alone at home when the convict came to her house, and physically assaulted her before committing the crime. The convict fled from the spot after the victim’s brother came, who informed the grandmother seeing her bleeding. Her grandmother informed the police about the incident.
