Mumbai, September 26: Mumbai police have arrested a 30-year-old man for allegedly groping a 27-year-old woman and kissing her on the neck in Andheri on Tuesday. The woman screamed for help following which the accused was nabbed by passersby and handed over to cops. The man, who had come to the city in search of a job, has been identified as Majid Malik, who lives on a footpath at Jogeshwari (west), Hindustan Times report. The woman, a resident of Kandivali, told cops that the incident took on Tuesday at 7:45 pm when she was on her back home. As per her statement, the accused grabber her from behind. He also kissed her on the neck. When she yelled for help, the passersby nabbed Malik and handed him over to the police, Hindustan Times report.
Meanwhile, the accused has been booked under section 354 (assault or criminal force to woman with intent to outrage her modesty) of the Indian Penal Code. Deepak Kajve, a senior inspector of Amboli police station, said that they are conducting a background test to check whether the accused has any record of a criminal offence.
In a similar incident, last month, a 59-year-old man was held for forcibly kissing an 11-year-old. The victim, who is a resident of London, had come to Mumbai to visit her uncle. The accused on spotting the girl alone on a staircase of a building kissed her. When she screamed for help, he fled from the spot. Later, the accused was arrested after a police complaint was filed.
