Mumbai, November 15: In a tragic incident, a 25-year-old Indian Navy personnel shot himself to death with his rifle at naval station INS Angre on Thursday, the Mumbai Police was quoted by news agency ANI. The sailor, identified as Akhilesh Yadav, lost his life at the naval station in Mumbai. Police informed that Yadav was rushed to INHS Asvini but was declared brought dead.
In the wake of the incident, the Colaba Police has registered an 'Accidental Death Report' and is investigating into the matter, reports said. According to a defence statement, Yadav, the sailor, was found in a pool of blood on Thursday evening. Reports inform that the bullet was fired from his service rifle, but the statement did not specify if it was a case of accidental firing or something else. A similar incident was reported from Jammu and Kashmir in September where an Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) of the Indo-Tibetan Border Police allegedly committed suicide by shooting himself with his service rifle. According to a report by PTI, ASI Jaswant Singh was found dead with a bullet injury in his neck at Van Bhawan near Rail head complex.
