Mumbai: 19-Year-Old Boy Given Wrong Injection Twice For Fever, Dies
The family alleged medical negligence in the treatment of Kartik by Unani doctor Nazamuddin Sheikh at his Najms Clinic.
Mumbai, October 19: A 19-year-old boy died after he was allegedly given a wrong injection twice by a Unani doctor for fever. The deceased was identified as Kartik Deda, a resident of Mumbai's Ghatkopar west area. The family alleged medical negligence in the treatment of Kartik by Unani doctor Nazamuddin Sheikh at his Najms Clinic.
On October 13, Kartik was brought at Najms Clinic as he was suffering from fever and chills. Dr Nazamuddin Sheikh gave him an injection on his buttocks and sent him home. According to Kartik’s brother Jayant Deda, his condition, however, deteriorated and Kartik was unable to walk. As Kartik received no relief, his family brought him again at Sheikh's clinic.
The Unani doctor administered another injection to help the pain subside. Kartik was brought home where he collapsed. He was then rushed to the BMC-run Rajawadi Hospital. Kartik was sent to the civic-run Sion hospital as needed better care. Doctors at Sion hospital found that the area where the injection was administered was swollen and had an abscess.
Kartik died 12 hours after being admitted to Sion hospital. We suspect that he died due to sepsis (a life-threatening complication of an infection). His viscera samples have been sent for tests to ascertain the cause of death," Dr Rajesh Dere, head of the forensic department, Sion hospital, told Mumbai Mirror. The Park Site police have filed a complaint.
According to the police, Shiekh said he is a Unani doctor and that his clinic is registered. Cops have seized all drugs and injections from his clinic.
