Chitrakoot, February 24: The discovery of the bodies of 6-year-old twin brothers who were kidnapped at gunpoint from their school bus near Nayagaon in Chitrakoot on February 12, has given rise to widespread protests as people came out on road in large numbers to protest. The angry mob gathered ransacked the Jankikund shopping complex, not very far from where the boys were kidnapped.

The police reportedly had to fire tear gas shell to disperse the mob, which had gathered after news spread that the twin brothers were thrown alive into the river with their hands and legs tied.

Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Kamal Nath also condemned the murder of the abducted twins – Devansh and Priyansh. The six-year-old twin brothers who were kidnapped from Madhya Pradesh's Chitrakoot district on February 12, have been found dead in Uttar Pradesh, Banda district. Their bodies were found in a river, reported news agency ANI. Post mortem is being conducted to ascertain the exact cause of death of the children.

The family of the children murdered lives in Chitrakoot district on UP side, whereas the school they studied falls in the district in Chitrakoot part of Uttar Pradesh.

The Hindustan Times quoted police as saying that the family was asked to pay Rs 1 crore as ransom amount for releasing the twins. The family did pay Rs 20 lakhs to the kidnappers on February 19, but the kidnappers kill the children on February 21.

Earlier on Sunday morning, news broke about the bodies found of the two brother who were kidnapped at a gunpoint by two persons from their school bus near Nayagaon in Chitrakoot district, Madhya Pradesh, on February 12, 2019.

The kidnapped students were 6-year-old twin brothers of Sadguru Public School identified as Devansh and Priyansh Rawat.Soon after receiving the information about the incident, the police rushed to the spot and learned through the CCTV footage how the twins were kidnapped at a gunpoint from the school bus.

The two accused, who came on a motorbike, stopped the vehicle near Nayagaon and took away both the students around 12:40 pm. As soon as the police got information about the kidnapping, the borders of Madhya Pradesh and Uttar Pradesh and other exit areas were put on alert.

However, even after a manhunt, the police could not reach a breakthrough in the case. When there was no trace of the boys even five days after their kidnapping, the family turned to social media and requested for help from the people, to get their children back.

But on Saturday, the Special Task Force arrested four people who led the police to the site from where they had thrown the children. The bodies were recovered after a night long search. The bodies were found from near a temple in Bakul village of Marka police area in Madhya Pradesh.

Meanwhile, former Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan condemned the murder and said, “I pay my homage to the two children. It was an unfortunate incident. We had hoped that the government and administration would take it seriously and rescue the children. Congress keeps saying ‘waqt hai badlav ka’ (It is time for a change), but is this the change that they promised? This incident shook me.”
