Bhopal, May 26: Madhya Pradesh police on Sunday arrested two people in connection with the May 22 incident in Seoni district of the state, in which three people were assaulted for allegedly carrying beef. A total of five people were accused in the case. According to the police, five “gaurakshaks” allegedly beat up two men and forced one of the victims to thrash a woman accompanying them on May 22. “We arrested siblings Rasheed Hakim (24) and Sammi (20) for selling meat to the three people who were beaten up,” an official said. Till now, a total of 10 people have been arrested in the case. On May 25, a video surfaced showing three Muslims being beaten up by self-styled gaurakshaks in Madhya Pradesh.
According to reports, two Muslim men and a woman, travelling in an autorickshaw in Seoni, were stopped by a group of cow vigilantes on Friday after being tipped that they were allegedly carrying beef. The two men were tied to a pole and beaten up. One of them was forced to beat the woman travelling with them. The victims were also forced to chant ‘Jai Shri Ram’. After the video of the incident surfaced, AIMIM chief Asaduddin Owaisi targeted Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Owaisi asked Modi whether Muslims would be subjected to this treatment under his "New India". Owaisi tweeted the video of the incident. His tweet reads, "This is how Muslims are treated by Vigilantes created by Modi voters. Welcome to a New India which will be inclusive and as @PMOIndia said Secularism Ka Niqaab....”
