Lucknow, January 18: The police department in Uttar Pradesh has sent a proposal to raise the moustache allowance for Provincial Armed Constabulary (PAC) personnel. The department has reportedly proposed to hike the 'mooch allowance' from Rs 50 to Rs 250 per month, in a bid to encourage policemen to grow and maintain moustache that is supposed to add a dash of machismo to a policeman's personality.
According to a report, Binod Kumar Singh, ADG of PAC, has sent a proposal to raise the moustache allowance for PAC personnel. Singh, however, remained tightlipped on the quantum of increase. "I have asked all unit commanders to take stock of their men and highlight the fact that the ones with moustaches will be rewarded. The idea has been accepted in principle but the financial modalities are yet to be finalized," Singh told TOI. Uttar Pradesh Police Served Notice on 'Fake Encounter' of Muslim Youth.
Singh added that all measures were being taken to boost the morale of policemen. "If their morale is up, they will give you better performance and result," the ADG said. Currently, a PAC personal gets Rs 50 per month in PAC for 'moustache maintenance'. "After taking over in PAC on January 11, I went to Prayagraj where I met a few middle-aged police personnel whose passion to sport such moustaches was amazing," Singh said. ADG zone Meerut Prashant Kumar, who is known for his handlebar moustache, echoed similar views on moustache, adding that growing moustache is one's personal choice. "If one carries himself smartly, it's an add on. Sporting moustache is an old tradition and it is a good move if it is being revived," Kumar was quoted as saying.
