With this cloud-based platform, the users can access their essential and vital documents on the go from anywhere and anytime via smartphone devices. The Union Ministry of Road Transport and Highways had last year amended the Central Motor Vehicles Rules, 1989, removing the provision that people need to carry hard copies of transport-related documents like driving licence, vehicle registration certificate, insurance, permit, etc. Under the revised rules, motorists can carry all such documents even in the electronic form when demanded by police or any other official. How to save Driving Licence and other essential documents on Digi Locker:
The user will have to visit the official website - digilocker.gov.in. On the extreme right side of the page, the user needs to click on the signup button, which will be directed to a sign-up page. Now, the user will be required to authenticate his/her mobile number which will be done by the means of OTP (One Time Password). The user will receive an OTP on his mobile number that will be required in for filling up details like Username and password followed which the DigiLocker account will be created. Once the account is successfully created, the users can voluntarily add Aadhaar number for availing additional services of the platform
In the two apps, DigiLocker and mParivahan, you can save all your documents in e-form and show them to the traffic police if they want to see any papers. The Motor Vehicles (Amendment) Act, 2019 came into effect from September 1. The Narendra Modi government brought the new Motor Vehicle Act with an aim to improve road safety. This new act might force drivers to adhere to traffic rules as increased penalties will prove as deterrence to violate traffic rules. According to the new Bill, drink and drive and not giving way to an emergency vehicle will invite a penalty of Rs 10,000, imprisonment, or both.
