Moradabad, July 7: Seeking revenge, eight men of a family forcible confined a 16-year-old girl for days and raped her repeatedly in front of her parents because her brother had eloped with one of their relatives. The horrific incident took place in Moradabad of Uttar Pradesh. Police registered a case after the girl was released on July 4. No arrest has been made so far. The elder brother of the girl had eloped with a woman on July 27. On June 28, the woman's father, his son and some "influential" people forcibly took the girl and her parents to Amroha on the pretext of searching the missing couple. "In Amroha, all of them thrashed us and gang-raped my daughter in front of our eyes. Later, one of them married her off despite our pleas for mercy," the girl's father was quoted by TOI as saying. While the girl's parents were let go on June 29 with a warning that their daughter would be killed if they contact the police, she was held hostage and raped for another four days. She was allegedly gang-raped by the missing woman’s father, brothers and uncles. "We registered an FIR after the girl came back home and narrated the ordeal," Additional Superintendent of Police (Rural) Vidya Sagar Mishra said.
The survivor's father said a complaint was submitted on June 29, but the police did not act. All eight accused have been charged under sections 376-D (gang-rape), 342 (wrongful confinement), 506 (criminal intimidation), 354 (attempt to outrage the modesty of a woman) along with relevant sections of the POCSO Act. The search of the accused and the missing couple was underway.
