Monsoon 2021 Forecast: Southwest Monsoon Expected To Revive This Week, Maharashtra, Goa, Karnataka Brace for Heavy Rainfall

The weather agency said that rainfall will gain momentum in these coastal states due to the strengthening of the Southwest Monsoon over the Arabian Sea. Also, a low-pressure area is expected to form over the Westcentral Bay of Bengal around July 11.

New Delhi, July 7: The southwest monsoon in India is set to enter an active phase this week with the India Meteorological Department (IMD) forecast showing signs of increasing rainfall activity from July 8. According to a weather bulletin by IMD, heavy rainfall is set to lash parts of Maharashtra, Goa, Kerala and Karnataka till July 11. The weather agency said that rainfall will gain momentum in these coastal states due to the strengthening of the Southwest Monsoon over the Arabian Sea. Also, a low-pressure area is expected to form over the Westcentral Bay of Bengal around July 11. Monsoon 2021 Update: Southwest Monsoon Expected To Revive This Week, To Advance Over Delhi, Punjab and Parts of North India Around July 10.

Giving details about the progress of the monsoon in India, the IMD said that the moist easterly winds in the lower level from the Bay of Bengal likely to establish gradually over parts of eastern India from July 8 onwards. "It is likely to spread into northwest India covering Punjab and north Haryana by 10th July. Accordingly, the southwest monsoon likely to advance over the remaining parts of Uttar Pradesh, some more parts of Punjab, Haryana and Rajasthan and Delhi around July 10, the IMD said.

The IMD said that the Northern Limit of the southwest monsoon (NLM) continues to pass through Barmer, Bhilwara, Dholpur, Aligarh, Meerut, Ambala, and Amritsar. The weather agency said that due to the revival of Southwest Monsoon from July 8; rainfall intensity and distribution very likely to decrease over Northeast India including Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Meghalaya, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram and Tripura from July 9 onwards.
