New Delhi, July 1: The past 24 hours have been tough for the Indian Aviation industry as three runway accidents were reported which could have turned disastrous. During this period, three aircraft met with a minor accident at three different airports. The first was reported at Mangaluru International Airport, where Air India Express flight from Dubai skidded away and stuck into the soft ground.
The second was also reported on Sunday where a Spicejet aircraft shot off from the runway in Gujarat's Surat. In Third, an Air India Express flight's 'tail' bruised while landing in Kozhikode airport. In these incidents, no casualties and injuries were reported.
In the Mangalore incident, 183 passengers aboard an Air India Express flight had a narrow escape after the aircraft veered off the taxiway at Mangaluru International Airport on Sunday. "AI Express aircraft VT-AYA, operating IX 384, Dubai to Mangalore on June 30, after landing on runway 24 while vacating the runway to the right side has gone off the taxiway into soft ground," the airlines said.
In the second incident on Sunday, a domestic SpiceJet flight overshot the runway while landing in Gujarat's Surat. The incident resulted due to heavy showers and winds. No injuries were reported. Due to this incident, the international airport was shut down for a night and three flights were diverted to Ahmedabad.
On Monday, an Air India flight from Saudi Arabia had a close shave after its 'tail tip', the rear part of the aircraft, touched the surface while landing at Kozhikode. The AI flight was flying from Dammam. All 180 passengers on board were safe.
