New Delhi, July 2: After a pounding pour in Mumbai and other cities, the monsoon is expected to make a way to Haryana, Chandigarh, Delhi in next 72 hours. The monsoon will also make advancement to Himachal Pradesh and Jammu and Kashmir, IMD official said. The northern areas, especially the national capital region is witnessing massive heat from last few weeks as the mercury soared over 40-degree Celsius. "If you look at northwest India, we're expecting that in Haryana, Chandigarh, Delhi even Himachal Pradesh, Jammu and Kashmir and remaining Madhya Pradesh, monsoon will make further advancement in next 72 hrs," Naresh, India Meteorological Department (IMD) official said. Uttarakhand is also likely to receive good rainfall after two days. "Uttarakhand will also experience good rainfall activity in the next 4-5 days. But Haryana, Chandigarh, Delhi will experience isolated to scattered rainfall at 25-50 per cent stations, but there will only be light to moderate rainfall," Naresh said.

On the other hand, Mumbai has been severely pounded by heavy rains bring a halt to normal lives. The train services, as well as flight operations at Chhatrapati Shivaji International Airport, were hit due to heavy showers. At average 375 mm rainfall was recorded on Monday which was the maximum July rain that city has seen over 24-hour time breaking records since 1974.
