New Delhi, July 3: Unlike the financial capital, New Delhi suffers from water scarcity each year due to the decline in water level. Citing the problems faced by the people of Delhi, Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on Wednesday announced that the State Cabinet has decided to make rainwater harvesting mandatory for all its government buildings.

Informing about the latest decision of the Delhi Cabinet, Kejriwal took to Twitter and wrote, "Delhi cabinet decides to make rainwater harvesting mandatory for all its govt buildings. HoDs directed to install systems in buildings which don't have it and existing systems to be cleaned & kept ready before Monsoon rains." Adding more, he wrote, "The cabinet has today taken a major decision on making our city self sufficient in meeting it's water demands. Natural water storage in River Yamuna Floodplains to be tested this Monsoon."

This is for the first time that the Kejriwal government has taken a decision and made it compulsory for government buildings to harvest rainwater on a mandatory basis.
