Money Transfer Rules in India: Time Limit For RTGS Transactions Extended Till 6 PM By RBI

Reserve Bank of India on Tuesday increased the timing of Real Time Gross Settlement (RTGS) from 4:30 pm to 6:00 pm, which will be effective from June 1.

New Delhi, May 28: Reserve Bank of India on Tuesday increased the timing of Real Time Gross Settlement (RTGS) from 4:30 pm to 6:00 pm, which will be effective from June 1. This is for the first time that such a move has been initiated by the apex financial governing body.

With this new move, now the accounts holders in numerous nationalised, semi-public and private banks can send an amount of over Rs 2 (two) lakh to their beneficiaries. Earlier, the timing of RTGS was limited until 8 am to 4 pm and that too it was restricted only on RBI working days. According to the RBI rules, in RTGS, a bank account holder can send an amount of over Rs 2 (two ) to a beneficiary. In National Electronic Funds Transfer (NEFT), the account holder can send upto Rs 2 (two) lakhs from 8 am to 6.30 pm on all RBI working days. However, under Immediate Payment Service (IMPS), an account holder can send an amount of Rs 2 (two) lakh can be sent at any point of time on a 24*7 basis.

The landmark decision by the RBI is going to help numerous people who face issues while sending money to their beneficiaries' accounts.
