Momo Challenge: No Cases of WhatsApp Suicide Game in Indore, Say Police
The Indore Police has said that there has been no case of WhatsApp suicide game Momo Challenge in the city.
Indore, August 31: The Indore Police has said that there has been no case of WhatsApp suicide game Momo Challenge in the city. The Indore Cell of Madhya Pradesh Cyber Police has circulated the advisory issued by the Ministry of Electronics and IT on the Momo Challenge.
Cyber Crime SP Jitendra Singh has been quoted by TOI as saying that although there have been no incidents reported from Indore, they want to make people aware of the message that has been circulating on the social media, and, hence, the advisory has been forwarded.
Earlier last week, the West Bengal CID had said that most messages going viral on WhatsApp under the name of Momo Challenge were fake. The agency also said that no case of suicide was reported due to the Momo Challenge in the state, adding that the invites on WhatsApp under the game's name are locally generated and being sent to spread panic. It also assured people there was no need to panic.
The IT Ministry has issued an advisory against the deadly ‘momo challenge’, asking parents and guardians to protect children from the game which lures players into a series of violent acts, ending with a suicide dare. “The momo challenge consists of a variety of self-harming dares which becomes increasingly risky as the game progresses and it finally ends with suicide challenge,” IT Ministry’s advisory said.
The ‘Momo Challenge’ apparently introduced by social networking site after last year’s killer ‘Blue Whale Challenge’, has made headway in several countries. The Game features a grotesque image of a girl with her face distorted and eyes bulging.
