Momo Challenge: Girl From West Bengal Receives Suicide Game Request; File Complaint
A college girl in West Bengal filed a complaint with the police on Tuesday about an unknown caller who allegedly invited her into participating in 'Momo Game' challenge.
Kolkata, August 22: A college girl in West Bengal filed a complaint with the police on Tuesday about an unknown caller who allegedly invited her into participating in 'Momo Game' challenge. The first year college girl in her complaint said that she received a message over WhatsApp from an unknown number as she had posted in the social media that she wished to take her own life after a spat with her mother during the day. She was invited to participate in the challenge.
When she asked about the identity of the sender, the person revealed it verbally. Scared over the situation, the girl then told her elder brother, who warned her against participating in the game. She then informed the police. The police have started investigating the matter.
Yesterday, a girl from Ajmer allegedly committed suicide after participating in the challenge. The parents claimed that their daughter killed herself while playing the challenge. However, in the suicide note the girl mentioned that she was taking her life as she scored less in the exams. The Nagpur police has even issued an advisory to warn parents about the dangerous game. The police have asked parents to observe the child's behaviour and communicate with them often.
In a similar incident, a 12-year-old girl from Argentina fell prey to these threats and committed suicide. The game started over Facebook where people exchanged numbers and then came on WhatsApp with children chatting with the character Momo. The ‘Momo Challenge’ is a new virtual suicide game. It is also said to be a successor of the notorious 'Blue Whale Game' and has made headway in several countries and claimed 130 lives alone in Russia The grotesque avatar of the woman with bulging eyes has been created Japanese artist by Midori Hayashi.
