Punjab, September 24: A multi-storey building collapsed in Dera Bassi of Mohali district on Thursday and at least two people have died in the tragedy. A rescue operation is underway by National Disaster Relief Force (NDRF) to pull people trapped under the debris. There are reports that more people are still trapped. The incident has occurred just on the back of the Bhiwandi building collapse in Maharashtra in which 41 people died. The three-storey building collapsed around 3:40 am on September 21 in the Patel compound area in Maharashtra's Thane district. The rescue operations for building collapse in Bhiwandi incident have been called off at 11.45 am by NDRF today. As per reports, this is the third-worst building collapse in the past seven years in the Mumbai Metropolitan Region (MMR). Two civic officials have been suspended in connection with the collapse, an offence has been registered against the building owner.
Taking to Twitter, PM Modi on Monday said, "Saddened by the building collapse in Bhiwandi, Maharashtra. Condolences to the bereaved families."
