According to a report published in India Today, Sub-Inspector Atul Sahu told news agency ANI, “Six persons were found smuggling cows yesterday. They were stopped by villagers, after which the two sides indulged in a fight. One person admitted to a hospital. FIR filed by both parties.”
ANI's Update:
It is not the first time that such type of incident took place in Alwar. On April 1, 2017, Pehlu Khan, a native of Nuh village in Haryana, was dragged out of the vehicle and assaulted by alleged cow vigilantes in Alwar on the Jaipur-Delhi national highway when he was transporting cattle from a fair to his village. He was beaten with rods and sticks, which resulted in his death. Six people were arrested in the case. However, in August this year, all the accused were freed by a Rajasthan court.
In July last year, the Supreme Court urged the Centre to frame a law against mob lynching. During the hearing on petitions against cow vigilantism, the three-judge Supreme Court bench headed by the then Chief Justice of India (CJI) Dipak Misra said, "No citizen can take the law into their own hands nor become the law unto themselves.” The bench further added that the government should ensure the maintenance of law and order so as to protect secular ethos and prevent mobocracy.
