Dhalai, July 3: In a shocking case, a suspected cattle thief was allegedly beaten to death in a remote tribal village near Indo-Bangla border in Tripura's Dhalai district. The incident took place in Noarampara, under the jurisdiction of Raishyabari police station, said police official on Wednesday. Suleman Reang, officer-in-charge of Raishyabari police station said, "Villagers spotted one person trying to lift cattle from a house. They caught the suspected cattle-lifter and beat him severely. We got information around 11 pm that a thief has been caught. We went to the spot and found that the public had beaten him up. We took him to hospital but he died around 3.30 am today." Arindam Nath, Deputy Inspector General of Police (DIGP), said that the man was lynched by a mob on suspicion of being cattle-lifter. Meanwhile, a case has been registered. The deceased has been identified as 36-year-old Jyoti Kumar Tripura, a resident of Manyakumarpara village.
