Kolkata, October 14: In a tragic incident, a 35-year-old man was lynched in Howrah's Malipanchghora area on suspicion of being a thief According to a Times of India report, Ershad Sk died by the time Howrah police could shift him to the hospital.

Police after going through the CCTV footage in connection with the case found that Ershad, a Nadia resident had been engaged in a private engineering company as a labourer. On Sunday morning, the victim was sneaking into a covered truck which fuelled suspicion that he was trying to steal things from the vehicle. The driver of the vehicle instigated others and pelted stones at Ershad. Locals raised an alert and informed the police when they found Ershad's body lying on the road. In August, the Mamata Banerjee government in West Bengal had planned to introduce a stringent Bill in the Legislative Assembly to check incidents of mob assault and lynching in the state.
