On July 11, a BSF constable was critically injured after being attacked by a group of 25 smugglers from Bangladesh. Reports inform that the smugglers from Bangladesh made a forcible attempt to smuggle about 10-15 cattle into Bangladesh through Border Out Post-Angrail near Bangaon in North 24 Parganas in West Bengal.

Earlier this month, a similar incident was reported from Tripura where at least 45 cows were seized by the BSF while being smuggled to Bangladesh. All the cows died due to alleged neglect at a cow shelter being run by an NGO in Tripura. The incharge of the cowshelter at Devipur in Sipahijala district said the cows died of 'hyperthermia' as they were kept in open due to paucity of space and there were incessant rains over the last six days.

In a separate incident, four people were arrested for allegedly smuggling cattle in Jammu and Kashmir's Poonch district. Reports inform that a police team intercepted four vehicles in Surankote and Behramgala on Tuesday and rescued 16 cattle being transported illegally.
