Mission Shakti: Pakistan Scared of India's Demonstration of A-SAT Capability? Says 'Space is Common Heritage of Mankind & These Actions Should Be Avoided'

Reacting to India’s Mission Shakti, Pakistan urged the international community to condemn the act. Pakistan Foreign Ministry in a statement said, “Space is the common heritage of mankind, and every nation has the responsibility to avoid actions which can lead to the militarization of this arena.”

Islamabad, March 27: Reacting to India’s Mission Shakti, Pakistan urged the international community to condemn the act. Pakistan Foreign Ministry in a statement said, “Space is the common heritage of mankind, and every nation has the responsibility to avoid actions which can lead to the militarization of this arena.” The statement further added, “We hope that countries which have in the past strongly condemned demonstration of similar capabilities by others will be prepared to work towards developing international instruments to prevent military threats relating to outer space.”

Earlier in the day, in a guarded response to India’s achievement, China said that hope India would uphold peace in outer space. Meanwhile, in 2007, China had already conducted an anti-satellite missile test by shooting down its weather satellite—the FY-1C polar orbit satellite of the Fengyun series, at an altitude of 865 kilometres.

Today, India has become the fourth country in the world to register its name among the Elite Space Powers by shooting down a Low Earth Orbit (LEO) satellite with anti-satellite (A-SAT) missile in its test 'Shakti mission'. Prime Minister Narendra Modi in his address to the nation said, “Our scientists have shot down a Low Earth Orbit live satellite via anti-satellite (A-SAT) missile in a test mission.” The mission which was carried out by the Defence Research and Development Organisation and was completed within three minutes of launch.
