MI Shanavas, Congress Kerala Working President, Dies at 67 After Prolonged Illness
The Minister had been ailing for a long time now and had recently undergone a liver transplant at a Chennai hospital on November 2.
Chennai, November 21: MI Shanavas, the Congress Kerala working President and Wayanad MP passed away on Wednesday after a prolonged illness and majorly due to complications caused following a liver transplant. He was 67. Reports inform that Shanavas was undergoing treatment at a private hospital in Chennai in Tamil Nadu. The Minister had been ailing for a long time now and had recently undergone a liver transplant at a Chennai hospital on November 2.
Shanavas, born to leading advocate Ibrahimkutty and Norjahan Begum in 1951, had represented Wayanad twice in Lok Sabha. Shanavas started his political career through KSU. He was the working president of the Kerala Pradesh Congress Committee (KPCC) and a Member of Parliament of the 16th Lok Sabha of India. Two years ago, Shanavas had survived cancer. The leader is survived by wife Jubaidath, daughter Ameena and son Haseeb. KMRL managing director APM Mohammed Hanish is his son-in-law. According to reports, his body would be brought to Kochi by 2 pm on Wednesday and the last rites will be performed at a graveyard located in Ernakulam Thottam at 10 am Thursday.
According to reports, Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan, senior Congress leader and former CM Oommen Chandy and several other opposition leaders expressed their condolences over the sudden demise of Congress Kerala working President.
