Ahmednagar, October 17: The #MeToo movement has taken the nation by storm and has., however, become a mouthpiece for women and has helped them speak about the harassment they faced in the workplace, home or anywhere else. The MeToo movement has become a powerful tool for women to name and shame sexual predators. Criticising the movement, Shiv Sena Member of Legislative Assembly (MLA) Sanjay Shirsat was quoted by Times Now saying, "Any woman can file a complaint after five years. Shirsat made this controversial statement at a workshop at Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar Research Center on Tuesday in Aurangabad. He also added saying that these types of campaigns don't help to empower women, but people are afraid to give them job citing that they can complain after three to four years. He further said this is the reason why women are denied jobs. The responsibility of women is to take care of the family. What if a husband fails to bring a saree- she can also accuse him of 'MeToo' allegations.
The minister further added that there are many insurance plans for men. If a man dies, the woman gets a compensation. But what man gets after his wife died? This insensitive comment from the minister was criticised by many. taking a dig at the leader, an activist from Mumbai said, "His remarks come from the male-dominated society, but this statement is an insult to women." While the MeToo is on its storm, many women have got justice because of this movement.
