Melbourne: Suspicious Packages Delivered to Indian Consulate, Other Foreign Embassies

According to local media reports, apart from Indian, the US, Italian, German, Korean and Swiss consulates were targetted.

Melbourne, January 9: Multiple foreign embassies in Australia, including the Indian consulate, received suspicious packages after which an alert was sounded. According to local media reports, apart from Indian, the US, Italian, German, Korean and Swiss consulates were targetted.

According to Vic Emergency, at least 10 hazardous material incidents were reported on St Kilda Road, Collins Street, Queens Street, Albert Road and William Street or close to the central business district and separately in Ashwood. The Indian consulate is located on St Kilda Road.

"Police and emergency services have responded to suspicious packages to embassies and consulates in ACT & VIC today. The packages are being examined by attending emergency services. The circumstances are being investigated," Australian Federal Police said.

The incidents come just two days after a suspicious white substance inside a parcel was found at the Argentine consulate in Sydney.
