Srinagar, March 26: With the Central government passing an order to ban Yasin Malik-led Jammu Kashmir Liberation Front and Jamaat-e-Islami under various provisions of Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act, Mehbooba Mufti-led People’s Democratic Party has extended its support to provide legal aid to these organisations to fight against the ban. The Central government has banned JKLF on March 22, while and Jamaat-e-Islami was banned on February 28.

While addressing a public rally at Cariapa Park in Baramulla on Tuesday, senior PDP leader Muzaffar Hussain Baig had said, as reported by Greater Kashmir, that his party is ready to offer legal assistance to recently banned socio-religious party Jamaat e Islami and Mohammad Yaseen led JKLF. Yasin Malik-ed JKLF Banned by Central Government Under Anti-Terror Law.

Adding more, he had said that though they have political differences between them, when it comes to justice, PDP is ready to plead their case in Supreme Court. Baig had said, “We are ready to provide legal assistance to both the JKLF and JeI, provided they trust us.”

Echoing same tone, PDP president Mehbooba Mufti had said earlier, “The party resisted the imposition of ban on Jamaat-e-Islami and JKLF when it was in power, if the party returns to power the ban on these outfits will be lifted.”

Banning the JeI and JKLF for anti-national activities, the central government had imposed a five-year restriction on these organisations for supporting ‘terrorist groups and being involved in the anti-national and subversive activities in the country’.
