The incident dates back to December 13, when one of the workers unintentionally punctured the wall of the coal mine, leading to its flooding. In the tragic incident, only five managed to escape. The accident in the "rat hole mining" came after the National Green Tribunal (NGT) imposed an interim ban in April 2014.
Earlier, on January 20, the multi-agency mission was abandoned by Navy but after the demand from family members of victims and order by Supreme Court, the operation was restarted. The family members had urged the rescuers to recover the bodies so that they can perform their last rites.
