Shillong, February 27: Rescue teams of the Indian Navy and the National Disaster Response Force on Wednesday retrieved an unidentified body from the main shaft of the flooded coal mine at Ksan near Lyteiñ River in Meghalaya's East Jaintia Hills district, the official said. The decomposed body was pulled to the water surface by the underwater remotely operated vehicle (UROV). Notably, This is the second body recovered after a body was retrieved last month. "The highly decomposed unidentified body was pulled to the water surface by the Indian Navy's underwater remotely operated vehicle (UROV) and then taken out in a bucket-type container to the higher grounds at 1.20 p.m," a rescue official said IANS. The body has been handed over to district administration and dispatched to civil hospital for a post mortem. The body was found in a highly decomposed and beyond recognition state. "It was a painful exercise as they had to slowly pull out the body as the flesh started tearing off when the ROV tried to get a grip on it," the official said.
The second body was pulled, following 77 days after 15 miners were trapped inside the rat hole, by the NDRF and Indian Army after retrieving the first body identified as Amir Hussain on January 23. The rescue officials added that two more bodies have been spotted and efforts are on to pull out the third and fourth body.
