Bhopal, Sept 16: Tallit Jahan, a victim of dowry abuse and domestic violence, was among the handful of women who were provided training by the Madhya pradesh government to drive auto rickshaw for a living.

Known as the first lady auto rickshaw driver of Bhopal, Jahan had underwent training in 2016 along with 10 women, including her mother. However, only two women in the state now drive the three-wheeler.

Jahan acknowledged the effort of Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan for encouraging the women, saying he travelled in her auto-rickshaw as the "first passenger".

"It’s been two months since I started driving an auto. I underwent training in 2016. I do this as I like it and not because I don’t have any other option," she told news agency ANI.

Talat claims that she likes driving the auto-rickshaw as it has empowered her and addressed her financial requirements. Per day riding of the three-wheeler fetches her between Rs 500-700, she was reported as saying.
