Meerut, September 25: Three police personnel including a woman constable have been suspended after a video of them abusing and slapping a girl for being friends with a Muslim man, went viral on social media. The police were taking her away after rescuing her from being harassed by goons over alleged Love Jihad. As per media reports, Vishwa Hindu Parishad workers were harassing the couple in a Meerut College. The couple was also forcefully dragged to a police station.

According to a report published in The Times of India, the VHP men were allowed to go without any case being filed against them, while the police detained the couple and called the girl’s parents. The police had also made the video of harassing the girl and abusing her for having affair with the Muslim boy. In the video, the female cop was also seen slapping the girl.

It is not the first time that the VHP has taken to moral policing to harass couples involved in interfaith relations. Earlier this month, the VHP had sparked a massive controversy by starting a campaign to spread awareness in West Bengal schools and colleges for preventing the girls from falling in relation with Muslim boys. The VHP had also published a list of 'dos and don'ts for girls.
