Lucknow, October 1: The Uttar Pradesh police have not taken any action against cops who were seen in a video slapping a Hindu woman for having a Muslim partner. Instead, the accused cops have been dispatched to Gorakhpur, the bastion of Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, which is seen as a 'VIP' transfer rather than punishment.

Moreover, there was no progress in connection with the brutal assault of the Muslim man. None of the 18 attackers, some seen in the video thrashing the Muslim man, have been arrested, reported NDTV. While an FIR has been filed against the attackers, no case has been registered against the police personnel who beat the woman.

According to the Muslim man, on September 23, a group of people barged into his home in Meerut when the woman, who studies in the same medical college, met him to collect some books. The men, allegedly linked to the right-wing Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP), thrashed him for meeting the Hindu woman. Some police personnel had come by then, but they watched the man being beaten by goons.

The police then picked up the woman and left. While they were taking to the woman to a police station, she was asked objectionable and religion-related questions, and slapped by the cops. The video of both the incidents went viral on social media drawing sharp reactions from the civil society and opposition parties in the state.
