Kochi, October 10: In another case of medical negligence, an 18-year-old girl was hospitalised after she fell ill, allegedly due to the consumption of the wrong medicine provided by the in-house pharmacy. The victim, a native of Elampazhannoor, Chadayamangalam, was given a stronger tablet called Isosorbide Dinitrate, used to treat heart disease, instead of Visalon, which is used to treat rheumatism.

According to a report published by the New Indian Express, the girl was admitted to the emergency department of the Thiruvananthapuram Medical College (MCH) on Sunday night after her skin broke off and blood started pouring out. Doctors suspect that she may have suffered damage to her internal organs due to an overdose of heart medication. Scissors Left Inside Stomach: Kerala Woman Warns of Protest Again if Not Paid Rs 5 Million Compensation.

It has been discovered that the girl was mistakenly given medicine for a heart ailment instead of rheumatoid arthritis at the pharmacy. The girl was unaware of the mistake and continued to purchase the medicine for two months as she had to attend entrance coaching classes in Kozhikode. Despite experiencing vomiting and heart palpitation, the woman ignored the discomfort as a medicinal side effect. After her condition worsened, she stopped the medicines for two days. The matter came to light when she consulted a nurse and found out that she had been taking the wrong medicine. The girl and her parents returned to the MCH on Sunday and she was then hospitalised. The doctors at the hospital put her under observation and her condition is said to be stable.
