Bengaluru, May 17: A case of medical negligence has come to light from Karnataka, where a 20-year-old woman delivered a baby boy on May 5. The woman, identified as Chandrika, was shocked when she started experiencing pain after giving birth to a baby boy. Four days after giving birth, the woman started suffering from excruciating pain in her stomach.

Woman Experiences Pain Four Days After Giving Birth

According to a report in the Times of India, the woman was prescribed an ointment by the doctors of a private nursing home after she started experiencing pain four days after giving birth to her baby boy. Family Finds Cloth Sticking Out of Vagina

As per the report, the family was shocked to see the cloth piece sticking out of Chandrika's vagina where doctors had made an incision to facilitate her delivery. Chandrika, a president of Ramasagara village, gave birth to her baby boy on May 5 at Govt SNR Hospital.  Surprisingly, the family members pulled out the cloth from her vagina with utmost care and to their shock, the cloth piece turned out to be three feet long.

As per the report, Rajesh, Chandrika’s husband, realised that doctors at Govt SNR Hospital failed to remove the vaginal mop which they placed to prevent bleeding after making the incision. After the incident, Rajesh approached the government hospital, lodged a complaint with the district surgeon and sought action against the hospital's staff for negligence.

Husband Seeks Action Against Hospital Staff

SN Vijayakumar, the district surgeon, said that doctors had placed the vaginal mop to prevent bleeding. He also said that the doctors had advised Chandrika to get the mop removed while getting the sutures removed. "The doctor on duty had also instructed the staff nurse in this regard. However, Rajesh said that his wife was in hospital till May 7. He further stated that she was asked to visit the hospital for a check-up on May 17. Rajesh also claimed that the staff told them that the sutures were soluble and there was no need to remove them.
