Bhubaneswar, July 19: In another incident of medical apathy in the country, tribal men in Odisha were forced to carry the body their relative in a sling due to unavailability of a hearse van. According to a tweet by ANI, the victim died during his treatment at an NGO in Gunupur in Kalahandi district. The relative of the deceased was forced to carry his body on a sling made of clothes, after they were refused a van by the hospital. Expressing anguish over the incident, the relative informed that when they asked for a van, the hospital authorities said they don't run vans on Mondays. "We asked for a van but medical officers told us they don't run van on Mondays", the relative added. Earlier this month, a similar incident of medical negligence was reported from Mumbai where a man, who had sought cure for infertility, was found to have non-functioning female reproductive organs including the uterus. According to a report by PTI, the doctors at the government-run JJ Hospital operated on him last month and removed the unwanted organs. In June, another similar incident was reported from Jharkhand where a four-month-old pregnant woman was taken to a Health Centre on a motorbike allegedly due to unavailability of an ambulance. Reports inform that the woman was in an unconscious condition and was profusely bleeding when she was taken to the health centre by his family members.
