Darbhanga, October 31: A day after a nine-day-old baby died after being bitten by rats in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) of a government-run hospital in Bihar, the doctor of the hospital claimed that he has no such information but assured of co-operating in the investigation process. Dr. Om Prakash of the hospital where the incident took place said "I've no such information. The family is claiming so. But we can investigate it since we know there it a menace of rats here".

On Tuesday, the infant died after being bitten by rats in the ICU section of the hospital. However, the hospital authorities refuted it and the district administration assured the family of a probe into the matter.

According to a report by IANS, the infant was ill and admitted to the Neo-natal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) at the Darbhanga Medical College and Hospital on Monday. The father of the victim said they were shocked to find that rats were trying to nibble at the hands and legs of my newborn during a visit to the NICU late on Monday. "There was no nurse or doctor on duty. We immediately informed hospital officials but they informed us that the child was already dead," Phuran Chaupal, the father said.

Soon after the incident, the parents of the deceased child met District Magistrate in-charge Kari Prasad Mahto and demanded action against the hospital. Mahto said that an investigation will be conducted into the allegations.
