MEA Trashes UN Report on 'Human Rights Violations' in Kashmir, Calls it 'Continuation of False Narrative'

The Ministry of External Affairs on Monday termed the report of the OHCHR on Human Rights violation in Kashmir. MEA Spokesperson Raveesh Kumar said that the update of the OHCHR is merely a continuation of the earlier false and motivated narrative.

New Delhi, July 8: The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) on Monday termed the report of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR) on Human Rights violation in Kashmir as continuation of false false narrative. MEA spokesperson Raveesh Kumar said. “The update of the Report of the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR) is merely a continuation of the earlier false and motivated narrative on the situation in Jammu and Kashmir.”

The MEA while rubbishing the report added, “Situation created by years of cross-border terrorist attacks from Pakistan has been analysed without reference to its causality.” The MEA spokesperson further stated that the OHCHR’s updated seemed to be contrived effort to create artificial parity between the world’s largest democracy and a country that practices state-sponsored terrorism. Human Rights Violation in Jammu And Kashmir by Security Forces? The OHCHR on Monday released its Second Report on the situation of human rights violation in Jammu and Kashmir. Reports mentioned the survey conducted by the Jammu and Kashmir Coalition of Civil Society (JKCCS), according to which, around 160 civilians were killed in 2018, which is believed to be the highest number in over one decade, while in 2019, conflict-related casualties were the highest number of since 2008. Pakistan’s NSC Decides to Raise Alleged Human Rights Violation in Kashmir by Indian Security Forces.

The report also found that in the Pakistan-administered Kashmir, human rights violations were more structural in nature. These violations included restrictions on the freedom of expression and freedom of association, institutional discrimination of minority groups and misuse of anti-terror laws to target political opponents and activists.
