MEA Trashes Pakistan's Letter to UN Alleging Rights' Violation in Kashmir, Says 'Not Even Single Bullet Fired in Valley'

The letter by Pakistan, sent to the UN on Wednesday, created political uproar in India as it quoted Congress president Rahul Gandhi. The top Opposition leader had last week said that he got a taste of the current 'draconian administration' in J&K when he was prevented to enter the state.

New Delhi, August 29: The Indian Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) on Thursday dismissed the allegations levelled by Pakistan in its letter sent to the United Nations. In the letter, Pakistan's Human Rights Minister Shireen Mazari claimed that Indian forces are committing excesses in Kashmir Valley. Rejecting her charge, MEA spokesperson Raveesh Kumar said not a single life has been lost in Jammu & Kashmir since the abrogation of Article 370. Kashmir India’s Internal Issue, Violence Because of Pakistan-Sponsored Terrorism: Rahul Gandhi

Kumar, while trashing the letter's content, also marked India's disapproval against the manner in which Pakistan has commented on the country's "internal affairs". Calling the remarks irresponsible, he accused Islamabad of spreading a propaganda to defame India at the UN.

"We strongly condemn the recent statements by Pakistani leadership on matters internal to India. These are very irresponsible statements. The letter is not even worth the paper on which it was written. Don’t want to give credence to it by reacting," he said.

Letter Written by Shireen Mazari to UN:

"Not even in one incident any hospital has reported shortage of drug or of any disposable item. Not a single life has been lost, not a single bullet has been fired. There has been gradual but positive improvement in situation on ground," Kumar added.

The MEA has asked Pakistan to stop playing the role of agent provocateur in Kashmir. Reiterating the charge of cross-border terrorism, Kumar said Islamabad is actively engaged in attempting to infiltrate militants in Kashmir Valley.

"We are aware that Pakistan uses terror as state policy and each time we have made them aware of our concerns. We have received info that Pakistan is trying to infiltrate terrorists. We demand that Pakistan must act against the terror groups operating on its soil," he said.
